When he talked to his best friend about his intention to take up PhD in University Malaya, his friend then advised him to think twice because doing PhD in local university fills with uncertainty.
His friend, Leo, talked through experience, saying that many local University lecturers like to intentionally pick on students, especially if a student is under a Malay supervisor.
For this, he totally disagrees, first of all, we are all Malaysian, and there is nothing as prejudice on races. Secondly, he believes that if he is willing to place his effort and try hard enough for his research, then there’s no reason why the lecturer should pick on him…
What do you think then...?
Many of my friends (non-Malay) who had Malay supervisors had less problems than those who worked under non-Malay supervisors. Hence, rumour proven wrong. I guess it all depends on the individual supervisor and student.
