NOKIA N91...

Hey, something special today; I bought my first ever cell phone!

I used out-fashion cell phones, and careless for the feature; so long it allows me to buzz people; hence, throughout 4 years of working, I have never spent on cell phone. I believe this is something ‘not so important’ as well.

After I joined this new company of mine, I realise the important of cell phone, and camera has become a ‘must’ criteria, because we have to snap picture of gondola in hypermarket for top management’s review; and show it to every salesperson in the meeting. It is increasing important when a project is progressing because it allows us to record our problems as a proof of viewing.

What drives me so much to spend $2,999 for this stupid hand phone, and get tied-up for the 12 months instalment plan!

Hmmm…..

Well, it is because I have a project ongoing nationwide, and coincidentally, my cell phone was malfunction! Every promoter, every sales person, and every one that are related to the project are calling me for their problems. They are expecting solution from me in real-time basis. I got no choice but decided to purchase a new phone, so on and so forth; I realize that I do not have much cash in hand. Hence, I need to pay by instalment. Then I realise that I need to go online very often to check my emails, hence Wi5 connection becomes another ‘must’ criteria. I visited Nokia booth at Low Yatt, and they told me that there are only two types Nokia handset that has the Wi5 features; which is Nokia N….something…cost..$2,699; and Nokia N91..cost RM 2,999. but N91 tag-along with 4G of memory! Of course I would put that under consideration…so I purchase it right away!

(Seriously speaking, N91 software reacts a bit slow though…you need to consider that too….)

The Routine...

I got a lot to do during week day, while, weekend, I was unconsciously busy with my housework! Yeah, I can’t understand why either.

Anyway, I am glad that I am able to spend sometime today in Starbuck loading some of my story up. Nothing much special these days after shifted away from all my best pals in Cheras.

Talking about work, it has always been work, though, I understand I must love my job and developed my passion; but it faded when I returned home every day! And, the love and passion rises again every morning…It is like uptrend and down trend of the day…

The Claims...

My company paid me every last day of the month; but during the month, we will have to give back at last 10% of our salary to our company, WHY?

Because we have to spend at least 10% of our salary for the company’s expenses, and we only get our expenses claim end of the months.

Many had complaints about it, but nothing can be done; what I can say is that “Give & Take”…Live with it…=)

The Office Politic

Office politic is something that kills company efficiency. I had lunch with my superior. I shared with him what I have heard throughout the month in the company. I told him that I will be taking a neutral position with regard to all the criticisms because I am unable to discern the black and white at this moment.

As for his advice, he wants me to stay strong with my position and advise those who criticises, trying to brainwash them to bring them back into the right track. I am quiet for a while, and replied, “I will try to do so”.

Come on, who would want to take the risk to ‘brainwash’ the old-stager in the company. They might think that you are trying to show-off and keep you out next time. What I can do now is to ‘look see look see’…

The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

My superior recommended the whole department to purchase a book written by Stephen Covey; ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’.

Initially, I was kind of reluctant because motivation book has never been my favourite , but after reading the first few chapters; I realize that this is what I have always talking about with my friends regarding human personality.

The book explained how we can be more effective people by being effective on ourselves at first.

You should read it too.....

Prince: Bayu Puteri Apartment...

04 JUN 2006
(My New Place... )

As you know, I shifted to Bayu Puteri Apartment. The apartment has an Olympic size swimming pool and all the facilities as I assume- should be functioning well. Somehow, I discover that most of the gym equipment is malfunction even though it is still new. All those facilities are badly maintained except the pool! Anyhow, I find myself enjoy swimming, and I swim everyday; started to grab the skill for butterfly style…

(Bole Associate...)

I was busy with my office routine when I received a call from IMC; I do not know what is it all about, but the lady was saying it is something likes an invitation for a conference. She asked for my email. She also asked if there are any executives in the office. Out of courtesy, I told her about my two other colleagues, and also gave her their emails.

My colleagues asked me about the call after they receive an email. I told them it is something about ‘invitation for a conference’, but they told me it is something else.

Not long after, I received a call from ‘Bo le Associate’. It is an international recruitment / executive search firm located in IMC building. She asked if I am interested for a meet-up. Then only I realise that the call was just a ruse to obtain our information. They are trying to head-hunt our employees. Of course, I turn it down because I have just started work for 2 weeks for god sake!

Anyway, it was a busy day; my boss and my senior were having meeting in Japan. Before the trips, they have already delegated responsibilities. All of us are hell busy to get thing done on time…

17 MAY 2006
(I am a Perfectionist...)

Perhaps I am a perfectionist; I do not allow myself to make mistake, or when a mistake is made; I would usually feel upset toward myself and find way to correct my error.

One of my daily responsibilities is the sales-update; the data executive will provide me a list of figure, while I have to key the figure into a pre-formatted Microsoft Excel files, and send to everyone in the office.

As usual, I forwarded the file. Not long later, I received an email from my immediate superior. He pointed-out my careless mistake- two figures were missing, and urged me to gain more understanding of how the formatted excel file works.

I feel a sudden guilt, and repeatedly matched the figure in the file to identify the error. Eventually, I found the mistake. It is due to miscommunication with my data executive. She did not inform me that the data was incomplete, while, I am too careless to ask about it.

Anyhow, as a perfectionist, I embrace high-expectation toward myself. I promise myself to be extra careful, and be extreme meticulous to refrain from making mistake. (Come on……I am still under probation…mistake can kill me at the end of the day, you know...)

19 MAY 2006
(The Da Vinci Code...)

How many wars were in fact inflicted by the conflict of religion belief? Can anyone share with me?

And yet, we still do not understand the impact of religious conflict; we have never learned; and we have never tried to understand and think, yet we just believe what was written in the scripture of whatsoever.

The movie ‘Da Vinci Code’ has even created such a great impact among the catholic and Christianity just because of their religious sensitivity. It is worsen when they claim that the movie may shake the faith of catholic devotees.

What can I say- ‘If what you believe is proven truth; then nothing is able to shake the truth’; if what was written in the bible is true enough to be proven with certain factuality; then there is nothing to worry about; moreover, it is just a movie.

I may not know much about Da Vinnci Code, and I do not have much to comment here. However, I have read others’ comments in newspaper and on the Internet; I have also listened to my friends’ comment during ‘Yum-Cha’ session.

As far as I know, the movie makes people thinks about the ‘possibilities’. While the religious group perceived it as ‘unnecessary’ influence that will nurture scepticism within a certain religious group.

Personally, I look at it as a movie, and I would believe the story – if only it makes sense. ‘Make sense’ as in supported by research, and is proven by analysis of the finding. Or otherwise, I would rather be neutral with both sides of arguments.

The movie showed how people try to oppress the truth by killing innocent people. Personally, I would believe if you can prove the incident, or for the other party to prove that it was a lie, or otherwise, my rationality would tell me to stay neutral since none can prove either it is truth. Hence, there’s a possibilities of it may have happened or may not have happened in the past.

My experience tells me that even our secondary history book was rewritten so many times to mould the readers’ perception; and Japan who distorted the fact about 2nd world war by rewritten the history book (you should know what I mean…don’t just follow the book…). It also reminds me about my childhood; my auntie used to bring back different types of Buddhist scripture for my references. I read a few, but half of the time I don’t find it adapt to my style of living. Perhaps, I am more towards ‘free-thinker’ society.

What if someone tells you Leonardo Da Vinnci is ‘gay’. You can prove it was a lie by showing his marriage certificate but it still does not command much credibility, isn’t it? - Because people have two faces; or otherwise, my rationality tells me that he could be, or could not be because no one knows, it is just a possibility.

Whatever shows in the movie, could just be possibilities…That is just my thought…

25 MAY 2006
(I am Shifting Again...)

I am moving again; I am moving to ‘Bayu Puteri’ Apartment.

Well, I don’t think I have much choice but to follow the crowd.

My housemates are moving so I am just tag along.

The new apartment is satisfying with a bigger swimming pool and a new gym (50% of the equipment is malfunction!), but lucky enough, they got a Sauna.

30 MAY 2006
(Birthday but Sick...)

Today is my birthday!

Yes! It is my birthday and I almost forget about it.

I almost forget that I am one year older again! =)

It is a bad day somehow because I caught flu and I am on MC!

I take light food for the day; which is bread with mineral water, and spend RM35 for the stupid medical consultation fee.

Dinner time, my wifey bought me a small cake; wishing me Happy Birthday; I sighed twice, and she is upset.

She believed that sighing is a bad habit; and could bring bad luck.

Somehow, I sighed because it is my birthday and I am sick; I wonder could that be ominous warning? But some people believe that the occurrence of one thing can neutralise the others; such as sickness can neutralise a possible greater misfortune in future.

Anyway, I receive a few messages from a few of my best pals.

Simmy and Joshua wish me happy birthday, and asking when will be my ‘Pool Side Party’! While, Catheryn speaks of her Holiday in ‘Perhentian’; describes to me the beach side scene with crystal clear water; apparently her sarcastic statement means to provoke my interest toward ‘Diving’, and reminding me about @ How bad is our life in KL!@…Hey, your message is ‘Kacau-ing’ (disturbing) okay! He!

I hope you all enjoy your trips yea, I shall join you guys next trips!

31 MAY 2006
(Work...Work...)

Currently; I spend most of my time working; while waiting for next year (2007) to arrive so that I can enrol the PhD program.

It is good to have one year break before I start to study again; and I can actually concentrate on my career development.

Life is good but stressful because I have got to learn everything from scratch.

My first two weeks in new company; what I can expect more!

Many current employees relate their experience to me.

Some of them told me it is good to work a few years and hop to another company because there is no future working in here.

They told me that the Top Management is always expatriate staffs; they have never recruited locally or promote internally. It has been 9 years.

While some of them complained that the annual increment is based on country GDP; if country GDP is 3%; then increment is only 3% of your total monthly salary.

Some complained that the pay is almost equal among the executive; because they follow strictly the company salary scale; and divided the employees into 12 different grades. Normal executive falls in grade five. Furthermore, promotion is based on seniority.

After all, they have never complained about the annual bonus; because company gives out minimum two months bonus annually and also performance bonus which could be as much as 1.5 months.

As for me, I believe no company is perfect; and I give this company 70% out of 100%. If only they could treat the employees better and adapt to local culture; I believe they can be the best company around.

As an employee, we work hard, we sacrifice and work extra miles for company for three expectations; which is “good increment, good bonus and promotion”. Even if we receive good bonus; but it is still worthless without good increment or opportunity to advance.

We want to be at high position with high pay…which is rational enough- ‘no one would want to be paid as a CEO but working as a toilet cleaner’; ‘no one would like to work as a manager but earning a gardener pay’…if you got what I mean…

After all, I still love my job…I shall let you know when I start to hate it…

02 JUN 2006
(My Office Environment...)

My office is alike War field with mine waiting for stepping foot. I have just found out today that people in the office are working for the money; not career satisfaction, not relationship, and they have no commitment at all.

My senior bought me dinner tonight; with a few other colleagues. They were bad mouthing the New Japanese Manager, and of course, our company as a whole. Judging at the situation, I would rather play my card well by staying neutral.

Prince: Melaka Trip continues...

Melaka trip continues…

We tried the Melaka satay-cerup; the sauce is specially made in Melaka. That is what makes it well-known. Meanwhile, I found out that a lot of good food in Melaka can be found at the back lane (Oops…).

As you can see, we were sitting by the sewer at the back of the shop-let. Then we headed to Melaka Raya for special seafood. Again, it was located at the back lane; filled with funny smell of the back lane; when I get closer I saw people sitting on the bench trying out the food. We had bake cockles and snail! It was some kind of snail that was eatable. Then, we proceed to ‘Bunga Raya’ for the well-known fried-oyster. We waited about 45 minutes for our turn.

Prince: Melaka Trip Continue...

We had stamboat session somewhere at Melaka Raya; and continued our food search journey to a hidden backlane for seafood. We had snail, cockles & olysters.
