No one can comprehend how time flew. I attended my Ex-boss's wedding dinner last night at Ritz Carton. I managed to catch up with quite a number of ex-colleagues from the same ex company - 3 generations of them. The Gen before I joined, my Gen and the Gen after I resigned, all happened within 2 years.
Despite the high turnover rate in the company, the company managed to achieve the target set all the times....and I suddenly recalled the top 15 reasons (have a few more but I think it is not humorous enough to tell) why the company can still have high achievement, and yet I decided to leave...
REASON 1) Working late every day: Work supposes to end at 6pm but we never get to finish our work by then, no matter how fast we work, it is always at least 8pm to 9pm during NON PEAK season.
REASON 2) Working in most of the weekend, either at home or in office: Simply because we have to prioritize our works, and most of the time, we spend our office hours dealing with prioritized work and left the NOT SO important work during the weekend.
REASON 3) Boss is very concerned about the top and the bottom (account) of the business because the better it is compare to the target-set by HQ, the highers it is his chance to sit in the Board of Directors when he returned to home country. Hence, ignoring the call from any departments for an addition head counts.
REASON 4) The Boss will give you one kind of 'hate' facial expression when you walk-out of the office sharp at 6pm, and they will deprived of your opportunity to promote or better bonus when it happens more than 3 times...or all the times....
REASON 5) MD sit right in front of the entrance door with a wall-clock hanging on the top right corner facing him. He started to do under-table registration once the clock hit 8.30am, on those who came in late....
REASON 6) Company's TOP DNA: I paid you good enough to work late and work every weekend, so NO complain please. Working late is what's already expected by the company, it is nothing additional to your scope of work...
REASON 7) When company treat you as a soldiers...All you need to do is take instruction, tight your forehead with a white cloth printed with blood, and kill your enemy...
REASON 8) When company's morale is low, they strive to balance the life of employees. Hence they devise a new policy so that all employees do not stay back in office too late. Office hours end at 6pm, while the recommended latest office hours is 7pm, but boss said 7pm is too early, it should be 8pm. Let's target to get everyone out at 8pm so that employees can have a balance of life....8PM!
REASON 9) When you give a positive feedback to your boss and hope he would change, he come back to you after months and said, "I know I am wrong, it is a big mistake in me, but I don't know how to change to be better...so I decided to be the same..."
REASON 10) When you are given RM50 allowances a day traveling to Japan or Singapore and is not allowed to claim any in extra...
REASON 11) When you are forced to learn a new language in order to have a better career advancement opportunity...regardless of your field experience and qualification - all you need is know the new language and you will fly. ..
REASON 12) When they always believe their product is the best when they are not, and yet they made all believe that they have a great product...
REASON 13) When your boss is the MD cum HR Director, and concluded that all employees are happy working in the company... based on an average of 40% passing rate in recent Employees Satisfaction Survey...
REASON 14) When your boss told you that he does not know you are not happy working in the company during your exit interview... (after you voiced your dissatisfaction for many times and request for transfer for 2 times and were rejected)...
REASON 15) When Boss send you a letter of promotion to promote you to manager, and make a company announcement to everyone in Nov but you only get your increment in next year April...and he told you to wait some more...
+ REASON 16) When Boss introduce a New HR Policy (Unofficially) that Every new Hire into the department (or at least in each department) must be able to speak Japaneses because the Manager couldn't understanding English...
+ REASON 17) When boss said, "Sooo....For New Hire, No experience Never mind-deh, must be able to speak understand and Speak Japanese- Neh, and be a part time translator- Neh..."
+ REASON 18) When boss finally willing to outsource some of the unimportant works after seeing the letter of resignation...
+ REASON 19) When the best counter-offer during an interview from the Boss is, "I let you change department-neh, OR I will sue you-Neh"....
Cheers...
